Carpenters and Electricians are the largest employing occupations in the building and construction industry, the 4th largest Australian employer, with about 9% of the nation’s workforce.
The industry grew strongly over recent years and is expected to continue to grow at about 2.4% a year, better than the Australian industry average. Employment for Carpenters is forecast to grow strongly. And the picture for Electricians is even better, with the trade expected to provide the largest number of new jobs over the next few years.
MEGT Institute’s industry-experienced trainers are in continuing contact, including through our apprenticeship training programs, with employers. We are also in regular communication with representatives of the wider industry. We continually focus on ensuring that our programs meet the need of industry.
MEGT Institute has developed industry partnerships with a number of leading suppliers to the carpentry trade. Regular consultation with these organisations benefits our students in a number of ways, including ensuring that they are up to date about building trade technology. Also, such exchanges ensure that facilities at our Trade Skills Centre, Ringwood, continue to be technologically advanced.
In 2011, MEGT Institute secured a preferred partnership arrangement with Bosch , a leading distributor of quality power tools to the building and construction Industry. Bosch recognises the importance of engaging apprentices for training as well as providing our students with information on latest industry standards, innovative products and trade safety and health.
Bosch representatives put on student information days at our Trade Skills Centre, demonstrating their latest tools. Students see and operate the most up-to-date products and ask questions of experts. Also, Bosch regularly keeps MEGT trainers up to date with the latest products so can we can recommend to students the best tools for their job.

Stanley, a leading supplier of quality hand tools, has partnered MEGT Institute since 2005. Stanley supplies us with a large range of carpentry hand tools, including planes, saws, screwdrivers, levels and combination squares. Stanley fully supports us in the development of trade students.
The local outlet of the major trade and industrial tools chain, Total Tools, provides us with valued support through discounted products, starter kits for pre-apprentice students and generous prizes for our open days and competitions.

Such contact ensures that facilities at our Ringwood Trade Skills Centre is kept at the foremost edge of technology.
We have an exclusive commercial agreement with HPM Legrand, a leading suppliers of electrical fixtures and fittings to industry. As an important supporter of advanced training opportunities for our Electrician students, HPM Legrand have supplied all equipment for our Trade Skills Centre, Ringwood, as well as such specialised training equipment as power-, phone-, data- and switch- boards. This considerable commitment has helped to make our Trade Skills Centre a showcase for other industry providers and students alike.
Lightmoves, a supplier of innovative lighting products and systems solutions, installed Philips Dynalite© energy-efficient lighting control systems throughout the Trade Skills Centre. Electrician apprentices have the opportunity to become familiar with the latest technology in operation.
We at MEGT Institute continue to stay closely connected to industry.
